Tomato Bisque

Thank you Hillbilly housewife

Tomato Bisque

2 tbsp margarine (or butter)
1 onion
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp flour
1 can chicken broth (or a cup of water and a pinch of bullion cube)
2 large cans (28 oz) of crushed tomatoes
1 cup half and half
salt and pepper to taste
Get out a large pot and add melt the margarine in it over medium high heat. Add the onions and sugar and saute for a few minutes until the onions start to turn translucent. Be sure to stir and scrape your pot really well during this part or the sugar will start to burn to the bottom of the pot (which would ruin your soup).

Add the flour and move the onion mixture around really well for a good minute. Again lots of stirring is important to keep things from burning. This process will cook the flour to make sure your soup later on doesn’t have that floury taste to it.

Slowly add the chicken broth (or water) and keep stirring to make a smooth gravy. Add the tomatoes to the pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer everything for a good 15 minutes. You will notice that the soup will start to thicken a bit at this point.

Next we need to puree everything. You can do that in one of two ways. You can either use an immersion blender and blend the soup right there in the pot, or you can use your blender. If you are using a blender, be sure to puree the soup in small batches. When you’re done, return the smooth soup to the pot and reheat as needed. Stir in the half and half and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Hi there

I have been AWOL for awhile... my deepest apologies. I experienced some car trouble right after I paid the car off. I was sick for a few days, and now I am back to work. What a life. I do know from experience that life will throw you a boner every now and then. My hope is to always come out on top. Have a fabulous & frugal day ......

Savings Plan

Okay... so the savings plan for payday is to put what used to be my carpayment in my savings account. I am also going to look into buying a couple of savings bonds each month.
Currently I am reading Make Money Not Excuses by Jean Chatzky.... So far it is a very good read, easy to understand. Jean is a brilliant woman. I haven't had a lot of time lately I have been busy with work, I will try to post more regularly. Have a Fabulous & Frugal day.

Feeling good about Finances

Last week, I paid off my car... I am now the proud owner of a 1998 Lexus ES300. It is in pretty good shape, I do regular maintenance and oil changes as well as tire rotations. So my hope is to drive Lucy till her wheels fall off. My plan now that I do not have a car payment is to build my savings account. I am feeling so accomplished right now.

Smart Women Finish Rich

Book Review // by David Bach.

This book is geared toward women of all ages, and backgrounds, the basic info is to take control of your financial future and finish rich. It is a 9 step program (which is better than the 12-step program) giving you charts and tools for spending wisely, establishing financial security, and putting your values inline with your money. Very easy and inspiring read, read this book and you will never need a money coach. I highly recommend....lots of great tips and ideas. The best thing for me about this book was getting it at St. Vincent DePaul for one dollar...and learning so much.
Have a Fabulous & Frugal day
